For the past few years, there’s one annual whisky release that we’ve received more questions about than any other. It’s not the Port Ellen from the Diageo Special Releases or even the Glenmorangie Private Edition – it’s the next in the Rosebank Roses collection.
The Rosebank Roses will be a set of seven whiskies from the late, lamented Falkirk distillery bottled by our friends at Elixir Distillers. Two have been released son far, with the remaining five appearing one at a time each February until 2023. Each is named after a facet of the world of romance – the first two were called True Love and Innocence.
We are very pleased to announce the third in the collection: Jealousy.
Nose: Sugared violets, blanched almonds and candied hazelnuts. Freshly mown grass and meadow flowers follow. The candied noes expands into Love Heart sweets and crunchy barley sugar. Apples and pears develop, along with apple blossom. Creamy white chocolate hides at the back with orange and strawberry creme.
Palate: Sweet and creamy, with candied apple, plump sultanas and white chocolate to start. More weight develops, with nutmeg-spiced shortbread and sponge cake. Digestive biscuits and oat cakes appear. Drifting around on top are the floral notes from the nose, sherbet lemons, and a hint of mint fondant and green leaves.
Finish: Candied notes lead: flowers, barley sugar and pear drops. Twiggy leaves and mint build and the underlying floral notes linger.
Comment: A gentle dram with a balanced touch of spice and biscuity graininess. Give it some time in the glass – with 10 minutes of patience it opens up to reveal even more complexity.
There will only be 695 bottles available worldwide, with most staying in the UK and being exclusively being available from us at The Whisky Exchange. It will be available in February 2019: keep an eye on the website – we’ll release more information closer to the time
In the meantime, you can sign up for a notification when the bottle is launched by hitting the Notify Me button on the Rosebank Jealousy page.
