There’s a new entry to the whisky festival calendar this year, courtesy of the chaps at Connosr and some of their musical chums – The Pure Festival.
It’s a twist on the regular whisky festival format, mixing drams with music and looking to drag in music fans new to whisky and whisky fans to try new music. If you are already a fan of whisky and new music then by default you are also catered to. It’s at The Relentless Garage by Highbury & Islington station in London and is happening this weekend – the 24th and 25th of September, 2011.
We’ll be along and will be pouring some Talisker on our stand. There will also be folks from Whyte & Mackay, anCnoc, Ardbeg, The Tweeddale Blend and Cooley, and Dom Roskrow will be along with some of the winners from this year’s World Whisky Masters. There’ll also be whisky and chocolate pairings from Stuart Robson and Martin Christy from seventypercent.com, who have some excellent chocolate and interesting drams to share.
Music-wise there’s a bit of a selection, with two rooms of bands and a push towards new music. Currently confirmed acts included Tom McCrae, Electric Soft Parade, James Yorkston and Smoke Fairies on the main stage. The upstairs stage is being curated by Fierce Panda Records on the Saturday and Rock Feedback on the Sunday and are showcasing artists including Hatcham Social, Electricity in our Homes, Steve Mason and Martin Rossiter. Tickets are on sale on their website priced at £28.50 per day in advance, or you can pick them up for £35 on the door.
It’ll be an excellent warm-up before our whisky show a couple of weekends later…
