The fine folks at Google like to play around with shiny things and one of their many obsessions over the last year has been Antarctica. They added streetview to selected areas of the big icy continent and have followed it up this week with some panoramic views of some ‘tourist’ spots.
“Why is this related to whisky?”, you may ask. If you’ve read this blog post’s title then you’ll probably have a clue – one of the panoramas is of explorer Ernest Shackleton’s hut, the place where some old bottles of Mackinlay’s Rare Old Highland Malt Whisky were found a few years back.
Tim’s already written about the replica that Whyte & Mackay’s Richard Paterson put together last year and we have a shiny microsite telling you more about it, but we just thought this was a bit shiny. I’ve not found any evidence of whisky in the hut (the bottles spirited away by Vijay Mallya were buried under the hut) but zooming in the shelves has fulfilled all of my needs for seeing barrels of boiled mutton for the week…
