Jim Mc's description has almost persuaded me to overlook the look of the gimmicky black cylinder that looks like it comes from the gene splicing unit in a Jurassic Park lab. I'm still finding it difficult to take 5 years maturation seriously as a saleable item too. But is this as close as I'll ever get to feeling the progeny of a Petrus vintage? I'm ever so tempted to stop buying the luscious products of the Barossa and Stellenbosch regios for a few days and wait until everyone has left the store then grabbing the Octomore, paying for it by cash and scuttling away with it to look, then smell, then look again, then steeling myself for a taste....

The packaging of the Octomore 2.2 is rather a lot like Dracula's screenwear, casket and all. A bit poofy if I may say so. I personally think this would benefit a lot from not having that ridiculous bottle shape and half a kilo of paint all over it. Because there is nothing wrong with the spirit quality. It is just still a wee bit young - and ever so slightly OTT on the peat, as mentioned...

Still think the Port Charlotte is probably a better dram though. That is cracking spirit. With balance intact even when young.

I am quite glad you wrote this post! I thought you had disappeared after the Whisky Show never to be seen again. I was actually going to write an article as a missing bloggers appeal for you.

This new Octomore certainly raises the eyebrows. You have to love it for being completely over the top.

u know, it took my a while to get to love the octomore 2.0.
at first, i was kind of disappointed, i preferred the Supernova. but from dram to dram i began 2 love this expression.
the nose, the complexity. it's one complex stuff for a 5 year old.
and the way the sweet explodes, and turns into peppery stuff. this is amazing.
now it's one of my favorite "special" islays.

will be very exciting to taste the Petrus octomore.
